Look around, it’s 2015, and the era of the selfie is upon us. Well, actually, it has been upon us for several years now. If you do not know what a selfie is by now, you are severely living in the Stone Age. Now-a-days you see people of all ages, gender, ethnicity, social status- snapping away at hundreds of selfies. It is a craze that many initially thought was just a fad, but has proven to be much more than that.
Over the past half decade, taking selfies has gone from something that few people would do in public, and even when they were alone would still try to make it quick as if someone was going to catch them in their embarrassing act, to a trend that has gone viral and is now acceptable within society virtually everywhere.
Here are nine quick fun facts that you may have not known about selfies:

Indeed, a lot of people partake in the selfie game. Speaking of famous selfie-takers, let’s take a look at the 9 Most Famous Selfies according to Yahoo.com:
9. Pope Francis Selfie
“Though Pope Francis wasn’t the selfie-taker in the first ever papal selfie, he was a willing participant. We’ve heard that this pope is one of the most progressive leaders the Catholic Church has ever seen. Here’s photographic evidence.
8. The Smartest Selfie of All-Time
Here’s a smart-guy selfie sandwich, featuring President Barack Obama squished between Bill Nye the Science Guy and astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson. C’mon, Instagram. Can we get a few more likes for this one?
7. Monkeys Take Selfies?
Monkey see, monkey selfie? When a black macaque got hold of a wildlife photographer’s camera, she proceeded to take a couple of pictures of herself (pretty nice snaps, too). The pictures and full story from the photographer were featured in an article by the Daily Mail in 2011.
6. Bieber Fever
5. This Selfie is Out of This World!
This image of a floating astronaut was uploaded to the NASA website and subsequently tweeted by BuzzFeed’s Andrew Kaczynski as the “Best selfie ever.” The post gained almost 3,000 retweets and more than 1,000 favorites instantly! We think this selfie deserves “space” on our list (not funny, I know)!
4. Times Square Kiss Selfie Remake
Yes, this is a photoshopped selfie, but we thought it was worth including. The Times Square kiss photo from the end of World War II was among the many famous images reimagined as selfies by the Cape Times South African newspaper.(Image: Adweek)
3. Queen B’s Not-So-Planned Fan Selfie
I don’t think you’re ready for this selfie. Though easily mistaken for a photobomb (a topic for a whole other listicle), the “Beyonce and fan” photo, taken during one of the star’s concerts, was confirmed to be an unplanned selfie on the picture-taker’s Tumblr.
2. Dark Side Selfie
Capturing the true power of the Dark Side of the selfie, Disney decided to start its Star Wars Instagram account with Darth Vader grabbing a picture of himself. One might point out that this isn’t a selfie; in fact, it’s a picture of Vader taking a selfie. Close enough, right?

DeGeneres, Bradley Cooper and other Hollywood stars were able to pull-in more than 2 million retweets for their selfie. The selfie, which started as an Internet curiosity, is now officially a mainstream trend that celebrities, astronauts, popes, presidents and animals have all gotten in on.”
However, imagine how awesome this selfie would have been had Bradley Cooper had longer arms. It would’ve captured several more Hollywood celebrities and got their full faces into the frame: In comes the new innovative product; the selfie stick.
