Earlier this week, Wearable Imaging brought you an overview including two of the four main styles of communication. In this article we’re still dealing with the issue of communication, and will be reviewing the other two styles by which we communicate with each other as individuals.
So, what are the two remaining styles of communication, and how can we best identify and engage with each type of person?
We have all heard of the mantra “time is money”, but these individuals take the concept to a whole new level. They will constantly focus on any goals and tasks at hand, working hard and fast to complete them in as efficient and speedy manner as possible. Their style of communication also mirrors their work ethic – they are direct and to the point, asking the questions that need answering and nothing else.
As much as they can inspire focus, hard work and the hitting of targets, Aggressor-Asserters can however be prone to biting off more than they can chew. They may take on tasks which others are better suited to, and they usually have a fear of losing control. On top of this, their directness can be misinterpreted as hostility or disinterest, so you should bear this in mind when communicating with an Aggressor-Asserter.
To best communicate with such people, you should first and foremost be quick and concise. Don’t provide too much detail if you have a query, but instead offer options which focus on results and goals. Keep your answers short, and express yourself with the confidence which they exert themselves.
As we would expect, Socializers are talkative and friendly people who enjoy being loud and energetic. Instead of focusing on tasks they focus on people, which makes them great motivators. Their good people skills also mean they will often be found on a business’s sales team, often with a, impressive track record. Aside from this, they are usually creative people who enjoy the brainstorming process.
However, with a tendency towards brainstorming and an enjoyment of social interaction, Socializers can sometimes lose track of time. This can be an issue when there are tight deadlines to be met. Stemming from a fear of rejection, some Socializers will also strive to be the centre of attention, which can cause problems during busier periods.
To best communicate with a Socializer, you should firstly allow time for social interaction. It is best to use written communications for more important details, and be very visual when talking face to face. Socializers respond well to a fast-paced, positive approach, and much less so an aggressive or negative tone.
