At Wearable Imaging we make it easy for businesses to communicate with clients and customers in this way, but things get slightly more complicated when it comes to the ways which we communicate with each other as people. We’ve looked into the four main styles of communication, and over a two-part series of blogs we’ll be looking into each in further detail.
So, in what ways do we as people communicate? And furthermore, how can we adapt when we identify each of these styles in others?
Mediators are generally calm and level-headed individuals, with exceptional listening skills and a determination to succeed within a team. They are loyal and work hard without gloating or boasting, and their calmness and work ethic will generally make them excellent teachers and mentors. It’s not surprising that in a business environment, many team leaders and project managers communicate in the style of the Mediator.
As with any style of communication, there are also weaknesses. Mediators can be hesitant and slow to take definitive action, as they like to consider the general consensus when making any decisions. By trying to please everyone at the expense of their own happiness, as well as generally avoiding conflict, Mediators can sometimes allow their frustration or unhappiness to build up to unhealthy amounts.
Effectively communicating with a mediator involves patience and a sensitivity to their long and thorough decision-making process. They like to be involved in the planning process, but you should approach them in a low-key and friendly manner in order to best make use of their talents. Any personal praise should also be kept private, so as to avoid potential embarrassment.
Within a business environment, the Analyzer will typically be a meticulous and organized individual, with an eye for detail and a focus on completing the task at hand. They are generally considered to be perfectionists, and can be relied upon for developing logical solutions to problems. Analyzers will often provide a reality check for their business team, utilizing facts and figures to provide what they believe to be the perfect solution.
As useful as these characteristics can be, it can be easy for introverted Analyzers to develop tunnel vision, obsessing over perfection to the point that they may disregard a realistic and acceptable second-best alternative. Analyzers can be suspicious of others, and are fearful of any criticism of their work.
To best communicate with an Analyzer, you should use order and logic when making your point, mentioning any facts, figures or other criteria that supports your message. You should bear in mind that Analyzers care most about quality and data, and always ensure that the message has been communicated effectively before moving on.
Our next article will explore the two remaining styles of communication, namely The Aggressor-Asserter and The Socializer. Why not revisit the Wearable Imaging blog to read the piece, or browse our promotional gifts and products today?
