At the end of May, Disney theme parks restricted the use of selfie sticks to guests riding the attractions. Disney now says it will ban the popular consumer product everywhere in its theme parks, and will not let them into the park. Effective 6/30/15 , the company will no longer allow selfie sticks at either Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida or Disneyland in Anaheim, California. The restrictions will begin 7/1/15 at overseas Disney parks in Hong Kong and Paris.
“We strive to provide a great experience for the entire family, and unfortunately selfie sticks have become a growing safety concern for both our guests and cast,” said Kim Prunty, Disney spokesperson, in a statement to the press. We can only guess that selfie sticks pose a threat to guests.
Disney had tried to allow the increasingly-popular products into its theme parks, but just not on rides. However, according to Prunty, violators were forcing park staff to stop rides for extended periods of time, and slow the process down which stole from the Disney experience of others. In some extreme instances, violators have forced employees to shut rides down because of their ruthlessness to give up their selfie stick. Now, security staff at Disney parks will ask any customer that arrives with a selfie stick to stow them at a storage facility or return the items to their hotels or cars, the company said.
Selfie sticks are still a booming product in the promotional products industry as they can easily be imprinted with your company logo. However, in 2015, many facilities have began to put bans on them. Disney is just the latest. The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Guggenheim Museum have outlawed the device, as have music festivals such as Coachella and Lollapalooza. Major sporting events like Wimbledon and the Kentucky Derby have prohibited the selfie stick, as well.
Regardless, selfies sticks still create quite an impact promoting your company in countless numbers of other public events. If you are interested in promoting your company using selfie sticks, Wearable Imaging is having a special that ends 8/31 would love to help you.
