Nowadays, with the increased competition in virtually every industry, it is more important than ever to attract new clients and retain the ones you already have. Too many companies are working solely on reaching new audiences and they completely forget about the clients that they already have.

1. Be Polite
Just as you should in normal everyday life, use your manners. While doing business, don’t forget to use please and thank you and refer to them as “sir” or “ma’am” until otherwise told. As we were taught at a very young age, always respect your elders.
2. Dress Professionally
There will be times when eventually, you get to the point with a customer that it feels like a friendship. Don’t get too comfortable remember this is business, dress for it. It shows respect and in turn they will reciprocate.
3. Be a Good Listener
No one likes talking to a brick wall. We have all felt that before when conversing with others. Show your customers that you aren’t tuning them out. Ask questions, give meaningful feedback, laugh when appropriate, and always maintain eye contact with the one speaking to you.
4. Follow Through
Don’t over promise and under deliver. You may run them away quickly. You’ll earn yourself a bad rep within the industry and have unhappy clients. Be true to yourself, and always strive to under promise and over deliver!
5. Respect Their Time
Remember, they are sacrificing their time for you. Don’t make them wait. Show up to your scheduled meeting on time, be prepared and don’t drag your message longer than it needs to be. Sometimes the quicker the better, get to the point and be respectful of their time.
6. Reward Them
Loyalty, especially, is a great thing to honor. Show them you appreciate them by giving them a gift with their logo, some sort of promotional product. Thank new clients for allowing you the opportunity to do business with them. Use an incentive gift to show you care.
7. Be The Expert, Always Learning
We are in a day and age where technology, social media trends etc.. are constantly changing, and if your company doesn’t stay “in the know”, your consumers will soon move on to bigger and better. Stay in the know in your industry, be regarded as the expert in your field.
